Your employment rights…

Pregnant employees have 4 main legal rights:

  • Paid time off for antenatal care
  • Maternity leave
  • Maternity pay or maternity allowance
  • Protection against unfair treatment, discrimination or dismissal
  • ‘Antenatal care’ isn’t just medical appointments - it can also include antenatal or parenting classes if they’ve been recommended by a doctor or midwife.
Your working rights when pregnant

From day one of your employment, your employer cannot 'unreasonably refuse' you paid time off to attend antenatal care classes during working hours when you are pregnant. This includes time travelling to and from the appointments. Parentcraft and relaxation classes can be included in the term 'antenatal care', but you may find it helpful to show your employer proof from your GP or midwife that states that these classes are part of your care.

Your antenatal rights
  • “Each and every time a baby or child is soothed by her mother’s conscious transformation of energy through breath, a magical healing occurs.”
